Whilce Portacio

Posted on:  December 14, 2009

I‘ve been invited to contribute to a fund raising effort organized by the talented Filipino artist and Image Comics co-founder Whilce Portacio (Uncanny X-Men, Spawn, Incredible Hulk), to help the victims of the devastating series of typhoons that ravaged the Philippines a few months ago.

RENAISSANCE is an event that will auction off the artwork with all the proceeds going to disaster relief. It will be held in Manila on January 10, 2009. Furthermore, it is also an opportunity to organize and showcase Filipino art talent from all over the world. It’s a great line up of artists from comics and animation including Whilce, Francis Manapul, Philip Tan, Pixar’s Ricky Nierva and yours truly.

We were told to create our own Filipino super hero and portray them helping out victims of the typhoons. My creation is called MUTYANG KIDLAT which translates to “Lightning Girl” or “Lighting Muse”. I’m a bit of a late addition to the project but here’s my piece which was done digitally on a Wacom Cintiq 21UX and Adobe Photoshop CS3.
