Exotic Lass

No matter how busy you are (especially with storyboard deadlines) you’ve got to find time to draw for yourself.  Here’s a quick design of someone who is ready for a tropical night out…

Done using the magic combo of Photoshop CS5 and Wacom Cintiq.  300 dpi 5 x 7 inch canvas using a custom texture brush.

Nothing fancy.  Just want to come up with a nice, round number to help generate more drawing momentum.  The challenge is to try and post one hundred drawings / sketches as fast as I can.  Here’s the first ten from a pick of some recent sketchbook doodles.  I posted a couple of these online via Twitter and Facebook today.  With the exception of the image above (pencil and watercolor), most of these were done with pen and ink using a variety of implements.  Staedtler Lumocolor, Pentel Color Brush, Papermate Flair, Pilot Pocket Brush, Kuretake fine brush…  Let’s see what comes up.

Sketch Video Clip

Posted on:  October 22, 2010

I generally feel weird about being video taped but here’s a recent clip of me doing a quick sketch using a Pentel Color Brush.  My hand is at least somewhat photogenic as compared to my big fat, bowling ball of a head.

Sketched this take on Robinson Crusoe for the HEYOSCARWILDE literary art site using a Zebra medium tip brush pen. Seems rather appropriate to post it on “Friday” although I didn’t get to sketch his beloved companion….

…Baseball Manager that is. Animation artist and Dreamworks colleague Jeff Snow invited me to join a group of artists and their daily posts of randomly themed sketches. Today it’s baseball. In on this fun are Dreamworks artists Dave Pimentel and Jenny Lerew and a bunch of other talented folk.

APE Sketches

Here’s another couple of sketches from my trip to San Francisco for the Alternative Press Expo.  This was done right at our table at APE.  This gentleman browsed our table for quite a while so I able to capture him in sketch.   Done in pencil and watercolor.

The one below are some walking poses as well as some character studies.  They’re not from life but having a crowd streaming around you helps get you in the right frame of mind.  Done on the Modbook on Adobe Photoshop with a modified watercolor brush set at 5 pixels, 40 percent opacity.
