Pilot Brush Pens

One thing I love to do during flights is draw.  On our flight back from San Francisco to Los Angeles on Monday, I decided to sketch some more potential villain types for STEEL NOODLES Number 2.  I have a whole slew of them but a few more won’t hurt.  I sketch a bunch of them and pick from the ones that feel like they fit the personality and the world.

My goal is to make them look convincing and not thrown together.  Nothing’s worse than seeing characters that look like they have no chemistry.  My benchmark question is always: “would these guys really hang out together in real life? “

I‘ve really re-discovered drawing with brush pens again.  These were done with a Japanese pen, the Pilot Pocket Brush soft tip with permanent ink on a mini 3.5 x 5.5 inch sketch book made by Hand Book.  (at around thirty-thousand feet)  Added background tone for legibility via Photoshop CS3.
