Doing some hard drive cleaning and organizing tonight and unearthed some drawings that time forgot. The thing with digital is it’s so easy to stash something somewhere (intentionally and inadvertently) and never find it again.

We’re taking the show on the road one last time this year for the ALTERNATIVE PRESS EXPO, which will be held Saturday and Sunday, November 1st and 2nd at the Concourse Exhibition Center in San Francisco, California.
As usual I’ll be joined by my esteemed colleague Octavio Rodriguez as we make a triumphant return to our favorite little convention by the bay. We had a fantastic time in 2006 when APE was a spring convention, sandwiched in between Wondercon and Comic-Con.
Now for the first time, APE is happening in the fall, which in my estimation is a great time to be in San Francisco so I commend the brain thrust of Comic-Con International for making the switch.
Copies of all our stuff will be on sale including the bay area debut of ALTERNATING CURRENTS. We hope to see all our wonderful bay area friends and colleagues and hope you make plans to come say hello and check out the best in independent publishing.

We’re back from San Diego where another COMIC-CON has concluded. My extreme gratitude to all who stopped by and purchased books. ALTERNATING CURRENTS was a huge success and I couldn’t be happier.
I apologize for the lack of a Friday and Saturday update. More pictures are forthcoming later today on my official Comic-con recap.
It was another inspiring and gratifying experience to interact with my fellow artists and colleagues. You have my respect and admiration.
I‘m physically exhausted but emotionally recharged. This is what Comic-con is all about.
I got the call yesterday from my printer LC Printsmith that the books where ready. But I couldn’t get there until today so it was one excruciatingly long evening of anticipation. So needless to say I was like a bat out of hell getting to the printer this morning to pick up my books.
This is the first un-boxing I’ve done via the trunk of my car, at a parking lot. But let me tell you that I can’t be happier with the stuff inside the box. ALTERNATING CURRENTS just looks great. Another year. Another book. Another big sigh of relief. And like I’ve said before, that feeling of satisfaction never gets old.
This book a whole lot of fun to do plus I got a big boost from the Axiotron Modbook during production. Now it’s on to Comic-Con next week to share it with all of you.

It’s a little under two weeks before the big show in San Diego and the final prep has begun!
According to the printer, ALTERNATING CURRENTS will be ready sometime next week. I saw a mock up of the book last week and it looks great and I am very excited to finally share it with all of you soon.
Also back in February, I was able to finish a seven page contribution to the new HOT MEXICAN LOVE COMICS 2008 called MUERTO MAMBO starring a character I created way back in 1995 called SAMURAI SLUG.
Slug first appeared on HMLC Number 1 and 2. and at the time, I was green and had no clue how to draw comics. Back then Slug looked like this:
Samurai Slug was created in a lab when slug and human DNA where combined in an experiment. The result is a blob of nebulous flesh that continues to slowly evolve. In Muerto Mambo, Samurai Slug now looks a bit more human than before. And like the other two stories, he is still trying to go on vacation…. but fate always seems to get in the way.
HMLC 2008 will be on sale at Comic-Con at Small Press table N8. Here’s a panel from MUERTO MAMBO and the sexy new cover for HMLC painted by Paul Wee:

And while you’re there, please be sure to visit all our other friends and check out all their wonderful new work. Locations are listed on the sidebar to the right.

Here’s the final cover for my new sketch book ALTERNATING CURRENTS. It’s a full-digital illustration done in Adobe Photoshop CS3 using a custom brush. Drawing this was just sheer fun. (click the image for a larger view)

With Comic-Con San Diego a little over a month away, I am pleased to announce my new sketch book called ALTERNATING CURRENTS, a loose sequel to the highly successful Wayward Traveller from 2006 and features brand new illustrations and sketches, all with that now familiar sci-fi flavor.
As for Comic-Con, I’ll be sharing a table once again with my friend and colleague, the talented Octavio Rodriguez who’s debuting a preview comic this year. So make plans to stop by and hang with us in a few weeks at Exhibitor Table G4 in Hall A at the San Diego Convention Center (aka Nerd City) starting with Preview Night on Wednesday, July 23, 2008.
